Zinc Flake
Zinc Flake Coating
Zinc flake coating protects metals from corrosion through a non-electrolytic process, eliminating the risk of hydrogen embrittlement. It is one of the most widely used protective finishes across a vast range of industries due to its durability, versatility, and excellent performance. Compared with traditional electrolytic coatings, zinc flake technology offers a more sustainable solution.
Almost any metal substrate requiring corrosion protection is suitable for zinc flake application, making it an ideal choice for a wide range of engineered components. At Anochrome, we operate multiple dip-spin coating lines, supported by automated spraying systems and a manual coating facility for larger products.
We also offer a range of zinc flake systems from leading providers, including bespoke licences such as the NOF Geomet series — for which we are the only licensed applicator in the UK.
Zinc Flake Coating Features
- Excellent corrosion resistance. This is achieved by a dense layer of flakes, shielding the metal from moisture, chemicals, and salt spray.
- It restricts ‘white rust’ formation, and other corrosive by-products.
- By using planetary motion, this process enhances coating uniformity, whatever the size and complexity of the metal.
- As well as resistance to corrosion, zinc flake coating offers superior surface finishes.
- Depending on their end-use, some zinc flake coating finishes are designed to provide high chemical corrosion resistance.
- No hydrogen embrittlement. Zinc flake coating is a non-electrolytic process. Surface preparation is chiefly carried out by mechanical blasting.
- Zinc flake coating offers some level of electrical conductivity.
- The zinc-rich coating offers galvanic protection. This enhances performance at bimetallic contacts with steel, aluminium, zinc and cadmium.
