Thermal Diffusion
Thermal Diffusion Coating
Thermal diffusion, also known as TD coating, is an environmentally-friendly, high-performance zinc coating process.
It is used in a broad range of industrial applications, including automotive, aerospace, construction, together with green applications such as wind energy.
How it Works
Thermal diffusion, also known as TD coating and sherardising, describes the process of diffusing zinc into steel at very high temperatures. The result is a hard, non-magnetic coating that provides exceptional resistance to corrosion, oxidation and abrasion, outperforming traditional protection methods.
The specific thickness and composition of the coating can be tailored to meet the end-user’s exact requirements.
Anotec can offer thermal diffusion coating with a range of PFAS-free zinc flake topcoats. This enhances the application and lifecycle performance, while ensuring compliance with latest sustainability regulations and coating standards, such as ISO 12944.
Thermal Diffusion Benefits
- Excellent corrosion resistance – over 1000 hours on salt spray tests.
- No issues of re-machining treads on fasteners over M10 in size.
- High temperature and oxidation resistance.
- Seizing prevention even on stainless steel (anti-galling).
- Good abrasion-resistance.
- Hard and non-magnetic finish.
- Amenable to crimping and bending.
- Provides an excellent base for paint, powder and for bonding rubber.
- Heavy metal free – REACH compliant
- Various top coats are available.
