Meet The Team – Denis Rainbird

How did you get into the industry?

I’ve always worked in manufacturing, starting as an operator and working my way up to Operations Manager at a compact disc factory and, after acquiring my BSC degree, I eventually became Plant Director at BIC South Africa.

When my family and I decided to move to the UK, I put my CV out there. Shortly after, Mark Jones, CEO of the Anochrome Group, got in touch and offered me a role.

It’s been a fascinating transition from making discs and pens to coating components for a wide range of industries.

What does your day-to-day job involve?

Every day brings new opportunities to learn. My role involves supporting our Operations and Quality teams, driving process improvements through automation and software systems – and keeping a close eye on cost, efficiency, company culture, health, safety, environment, legislation, regulations, and customer satisfaction.

Recently, a strong focus has been on building deeper relationships with our customers and ensuring we consistently meet their expectations.

What are the biggest changes you have seen in the industry and company since you started?

Across the industry, I’ve seen how rapidly global events like pandemics, wars and shifts in government policy can disrupt international trade. That said, with quick decision-making and agility, companies can overcome many of these challenges. I’m proud to say we’ve continued to support our customers throughout.

Within the company, the biggest recent changes have come from substantial investments across the group. We’ve added a new dip-spin line at WEP, with plans to add one at Anocote Czech, along with a fully automated robotic cleaning and shot blasting system, a rack plating line at Anochrome Walsall and robotic automation on our Rimlex lines at Inlex. These upgrades have significantly modernised our capabilities.

What are some of your career highlights and milestones so far?

One of my proudest achievements is how we’ve managed to grow even during tough times. We’ve often led the way with innovation, collaborating with machine builders to develop customised equipment that makes our processes more efficient and cost-effective, all while keeping our environmental impact front of mind. Theres more to come.

What is your favorite thing about working for Anochrome?

The team. We have an incredible group of talented, experienced individuals who are always willing to share knowledge and support one another. That kind of environment is especially valuable when you’re new to the industry, as I was when I joined.

If you could, what piece of advice would you give your younger self?

Stay at home with your parents for as long as possible. Get your qualifications early, travel widely and enjoy life – you’ll appreciate those experiences more than you know.
